The pelourinho was built after the earthquake of 1755, with a project by Eugénio dos Santos and Carvalho, with iron, marble and masonry as building materials. Its architecture is of revivalist style. It replaces what was previously and had been damaged by the earthquake.
The platform has an octagonal shape. The column is formed by 3 elements that form a spiral. At the top of the column there is a metal piece, which forms an armillary sphere, by Pêro Pinheiro. It has a granite base, with five steps.
It is approximately 10 meters high.
The Pelourinho de Lisboa is a pillory located in the parish of São Nicolau, in Lisbon. It is located, more precisely, in the Praça do Município.
It has been classified as a National Monument since 1910.
