By Decree Law 17.813, published in the Official Gazette on November 17, 1972, the part that remains standing has been declared a National Monument, of what was once ancient Hospital San Juan de Dios, located on Avenida O'Higgins when arriving at the Paso de Piedra, and that corresponds to the Chapel of the same name.

Its walls are one meter wide and in the part that surrounds the altar, more than that measure. They are totally made of adobes with an inner frame of vine shoots, to give them greater consistency.

In an interior patio the same bell is preserved, supported by a rough scaffolding, and surrounded by corridors that have a colonial appearance due to their old wooden posts on natural stone bases.

Embedded in the portico of the chapel are two niches with an undeniable ancient flavor.

In the first, the face of Saint John is carved in wood. In the second is San Roque in the image of modeled material.
